Last week I had the privilege of joining @Tipping Point East to celebrate their circular construction hub. Their open day brought together family, local communities and those of us from further afield, to the Royal Docks area of London. From beginning to end I was enthralled by the stories of collective action, expressed through the lens of abundance and joy.

Tipping Point East is co-developed by @Yes Make, @RESOLVE Collective and @Material Cultures. Officially, it brings together material reuse, low-carbon construction, training, and cultural activity to support a just transition in the built environment. For me, and no doubt many others, it is much more. It is a demonstrator of what happens when we become co-creators, adopting the necessary behaviours to build relationships based on mutual care for each other and for our planet.

What I experienced that day was a story of friendship, a commitment to being in service to the work before self. Seth, Joel and Summer (I feel like it’s ok for us to all be on first name terms) talked so eloquently about the interdependency between the three organisations. I was struck, but sadly not surprised, by the burden of risk communities hold so that those in positions of power are free. I came away understanding that all the Tipping Point East community faced down risk and system snapback in solidarity.

Theirs is the story of hope and mighty systemic change.

It gave clarity to our work at Tudor. The ground beneath our feet is shifting, and the world will not return to a pre-2020 era. We must commit together to resourcing whole ecosystems, reducing competition and building the foundations for alternative systems.

As Tudor grows with confidence, we map our funding priorities in relationship with those we fund and through how we are learning. We will become more open about what it means to fund through ecosystems mapping. Most importantly, we commit to deploying our capital. We look to others to join us. If we move money together and let go of power, we will witness seismic shifts towards justice.

As much as we are committed to building relationships externally, we also build our internal infrastructure in community. This applies to how we are developing our brand, communications and database. We will also be recruiting for new posts. All this will be more visible in the coming weeks and is necessary to our commitment to our growth.

When the world around us feels like it is getting smaller and more divisive, it is our shared responsibility to magnify the stories of community and remain focused on how much more we can do. Away from performative statements to deeply intentional work that leans into complexity. How we show up is on us. In community and in service, towards a world in which we all thrive.
