Coffee Afrik CIC:
Community power in action

What Coffee Afrik does

Coffee Afrik CIC is a lived experience-led community organisation working with people from Black and Global Majority communities to shift power. Inspired by the Black Panther Party’s community programming and grounded in Islamic social justice principles, Coffee Afrik CIC are building the infrastructure for community-led response and decision-making within a healing-centred systems-change approach.

Through a decentralised, participatory leadership model that stewards their seven Community Hubs, communities develop their own leadership and narrative power. Alongside their hub-based work, they support organisations across the wider ecosystem to navigate relational complexity and sector fractures. They recognise that this work is not defined by a single thread but instead operates as a layered model, demonstrating what it takes to build sustainable and just futures within communities.

Their role in our ecosystem

Coffee Afrik is understood as a key connector who brings communities and organisations together to build power. Within our organisational ecosystem view, we see their role existing in the systemic layer of Fields in Motion.

Through their practice, they are shaping future systems and contributing to the foundations of Alternative Governance and Healing & Repair.

“We are building alongside so many others who are shaping new political and cultural possibilities across this ecosystem. […] As adrienne maree brown reminds us, ‘Small is good. Small is all’. Our task is to connect the small so that power becomes collective.”
